the Surroundings

Juna is located in a fascinating area, rich in history, nature and culture. Aurisina, in the province of Trieste, is a typical carsic village characterized by a charming maze of narrow streets and the traditional stone houses.

Aurisina owes its fame especially to the limestone caves which have been exploited since ancient times. The project KAMEN _ Museo Diffuso delle Cave e della Pietra di Aurisina / Muzej nabrežinskega kamna in kamnolomov was created to recount, valorise and activate the historical, cultural and geological heritage linked to the quarries and stone of Aurisina, the heart of the area.

Only a few kilometres away from Slovenia and from the city of Trieste, Aurisina is defined by its fascinating local dimension, and its unexpected relationship with the sea.

Within walking distance from the San Rocco square, where Juna is located, you can reach the charming naturalistic and historical tracks: the path "of the Sage", the "Fishers’ path" and the Cemetery of the First World War. On the "Fishers’ path" you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the Gulf of Trieste, spanning from Grado to the Istrian coast. You can also easily reach the Canovella de' Zoppoli sea village owing its name to the ancient boats gained from a single lumber of oak tree. Aurisina is an ideal place for all lovers of the two wheels, thanks to many beautiful bike itineraries branching off from the San Rocco square.

Juna is easily reachable by public transport and close to important naturalistic, cultural and historical places of interest of the city of Trieste, the Region and neighbouring Slovenia.
